New Watercolor on Aquabord Painting

"Island Color" is my latest painting. I created it for the Loomis Art Loop studio tour that will happen again May 9 and 10, 2009 (Mother's Day Weekend) here in the Loomis basin. We met for our planning meeting on Saturday and what fun we had! Yes we talked business and planned the tour, but everyone shared their ideas with such enthusiasm and so much creativity was in the air it was magical. Commenting on all the creative ideas hatched at the meeting, Cindy Bonito said that this country would be better off if artists held many high offices in our government. At least there would be no shortage of creative ideas to solve problems!

Happy New Year!

OK, for the last few months I have been lazy about blogging, I am resolving to do better.

Yes I have been painting, yes I have been teaching, and yes I have been learning new things.

Paintings: I am working on paintings for my August show at Elliott Fouts Gallery. So far they are all very colorful watercolors. So at the moment it appears the theme will all about color and I will have to come up with a catchy title for the show. Any ideas? Here is a sneak preview of one of my paintings.

Teaching: I started the year teaching a two day Beginner's Watercolor Workshop and had fun getting to know the wonderful ladies who took the workshop. I hope they stick with painting as they seemed to be having fun in class and hey, isn't that what its all about? In these stressful times we all need a way to relax and I can't think of a better way to do that than painting. When I get in the "zone" all worries evaporate.

Learning: Learning new things is important to me. How will we grow if we don't keep trying new things, studying and taking classes and workshops? So I am off to Santa Fe to take Nancy Reyner's acrylic workshop at the Santa Fe Art Institute in February. It sounds like a very challenging workshop, just what I love! And since this will be my first visit to Santa Fe I am excited to check out the galleries there.

So Happy New Year everyone, and may this be a year of Masterpieces for all of you artists out there!
